Unidesk is a free dictation app for Apple-silicon Macs and Windows 10 or 11 PCs that types your words into any app. Double-tap the right Shift key, speak, and press Return (Enter on Windows) to finish. Dictation always runs on your computer, on every plan.
How to dictate with Unidesk
- Click where you want to type: an email, a doc, a chat, a code editor.
- Double-tap Right Shift and speak.
- Press Return on a Mac or Enter on Windows to finish. Unidesk types your words into the app.
You can change the hotkeys in Settings.
More in the same app
- Auto-correct. Fix a word Unidesk gets wrong once, in Settings → Auto-correct, and it is written your way from then on, in dictation and in meeting transcripts and summaries. Common work terms like API, PR, QA and UI/UX are built in.
- Write Mode. Select text, double-tap Right Option (Mac) or Right Alt (Windows), and say how to rewrite it.
- Command Mode. Double-tap Right Control (Mac) or Right Ctrl (Windows) to open apps and links or control music by voice.

When another app is a better fit
- You dictate on your phone. Wispr Flow lists iOS and Android apps. Unidesk runs on Mac and Windows only.
- You use an Intel Mac or Linux. Unidesk doesn't support them yet.
